Principal Economist

Israel Hernanz is part of Financial Systems & Regulation team at BBVA Research. He is working on early identification of structural changes that, driven by digitalization, are impacting financial services industry, interpreting its potential consequences, and supporting strategic decision making to enable digital transformation at BBVA.


Israel joined BBVA in 2007, where he has been leading projects in different units: Innovation, New Technologies, Digital Banking Strategy, and New Digital Businesses.


Before joining BBVA, he worked for Sun Microsystems and Grupo Anaya.


He holds a M.S. degree in Computer Science Engineering from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He also studied PhD courses at School of Telecommunications Engineering of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
