Iván Martínez Calcaño is Senior Economist at BBVA Research Venezuela since 2011, where he tracks and performs analysis on the external sector of the economy, banking regulation issues and political risks.

Prior to that, he held a similar post at the Economic Research Unit of Banco Mercantil (2009-2010). In the past, he had worked as a researcher at the Center of Public Policy of the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administración (IESA) in 2008-2009, and as a Junior Economist at the Oficina de Asesoría Económica y Financiera de la Asamblea Nacional (2001-2005).

He obtained a B.A. in Economics at Universidad Central de Venezuela (2000), and a Master of Arts in Economics at University of California in Irvine (2008), under the sponsorship of the Fulbright Foundation.

He has taught courses oN Economic Growth and Econometrics as Adjunt Professor, at the Economics Department of Universidad Central de Venezuela.
