Fernando Rojas Traverso is a Principal economist for Financial systems at BBVA Research, having joined the team in 2026. He is also an Associate Professor of Economics at CUNEF Universidad, where he teaches Banking and Finance at the undergraduate level, and previously worked as a Senior Manager at Deloitte, specializing in the valuation of financial sector entities. He is currently a PhD candidate in Business Administration and Management at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, with a thesis focused on the valuation of credit institutions, specifically applied to listed banks in Europe and the United States.
He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Seville, a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Granada and SRH Hochschule Berlin, and a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo and Afi Escuela de Finanzas Aplicadas.His research focuses on banking trends, European banking regulation, and the valuation of financial institutions. He has published work in Cuadernos de Información Económica (Funcas), Spanish and International Economic & Financial Outlook (Funcas), the working paper series of the Institute for Economic and Social Analysis (IAES-University of Alcalá), and the Observatorio de Divulgación Financiera (Institute of Financial Studies), among others. He has spoken at forums such as the Observatorio de Divulgación Financiera organized by the Institut d'Estudis Financers (IEF) at the Barcelona and Madrid stock exchanges, and he regularly contributes to media outlets such as El País, El Confidencial, and ABC. Additionally, he delivers specialized courses on banking and European and Spanish financial regulation to financial institutions through various business schools.
