Spain | Improvement in the labor market beat expectations in April

Affiliation increased last month (184,600 people) -driven by permanent employment- and unemployment fell (-86,300 people). Seasonally adjusted, this pattern was maintained. Employment grew (90,000) and the temporary employment ratio fell (to 58%) and unemployment (-50,000).

The upward trend in the labour market continued in February

Social Security affiliaton increased last month (67,100 jobs) while temporary hiring and unemployment fell (to 78.1% and -17,200 unemployed), in line with expectations. Seasonally adjusted, this performance was maintained: 88,000 more jobs, 74,000 fewer unemployed and a temporary employment ratio drop to 82%

Spain | The labour market closed 2021 on a positive note, despite COVID-19.

Social Security affiliation grew by 72,600 in Dec-21 and unemployment fell by 76,800, more than expected. Seasonally adjusted, employment rose by 73,000 and unemployment dropped by the same amount. In Q4, the increase in affiliation kept its pace (1.1% QoQ SWDA) and the reduction in unemployment slowed (-6.6%).

Social Security affiliation grew by 61,800 and unemployment fell by 74,400, more than expected. Temporary employment rate fell, benefiting from the contingency plan against irregular hiring. Excluding seasonality, BBVA Research estimates that employment increased by 100,000 and unemployment fell by 91,000

Spain | Labor market recovery gained momentum in 3Q21

Social security affiliation increased by 57,400 people in Sep-21 (45,000 seasonally and working-day adjusted (SWDA), according to BBVA Research estimates) and unemployment fell by 76,100 (76,000 SWDA). In 3Q21, both job creation (1.2% t/t SWDA) and unemployment reduction accelerated (-7.7%).

Spain | Job creation continued in August and the fall in unemployment surprised again.

Social Security affiliation and unemployment decreased in August (-118,000 and -82,600, respectively). Adjusted for negative seasonality, BBVA Research estimates that employment rose by 32,000 and unemployment fell by 104,000. The number of workers with limited activity is now below 500,000.

Spain | Employment started to pick up in April

Social Security affiliation grew by 134,400 in April and unemployment fell by 39,000. Adjusted for positive seasonality, BBVA Research estimates that employment rose by 29,000 and unemployment by 32,000. Nevertheless, the number of workers with limited activity still exceeds 1,094,000.

Spain | The labour market recovery stopped in February, at least temporarily

Social Security affiliation and unemployment rose in February (by 20,600 and 44,400 respectively). Seasonally adjusted, employment fell by 5,000 and unemployment rose by 13,000. The recovery came to a halt with 1,261,000 employed with limited activity and 890,000 fewer jobs than in the absence of COVID-19.
