Ateş Gürsoy works as an Economist at Garanti - BBVA Research since September 2025. He obtained his bachelor's degrees in Economics (B.S.) and Mathematics (B.S.) from the Pennsylvania State University and his master's degree in Economics (M.A.) from the University of California Davis.

Before joining Garanti BBVA, Ates worked as a researcher at the Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye. He is interested in monetary, international and labour economics.

Türkiye | A new basket, a tougher road to disinflation

Consumer inflation came in at 4.84%, above both consensus (4.2%) and our expectation (4.3%) in Jan26, while annual inflation edged down only marginally to 30.7%. Despite rising upside risks, given the uncertainty around the effects of recent restrictive policy steps, we maintain our year-end inflation forecast at 25%.

Türkiye | Resilient growth led by domestic demand

Domestic demand driven GDP growth could come in between 3.5–4% y/y in 2025. We maintain our 4% growth forecast for 2026, but see upside risks from carry-over effects, ongoing monetary easing cycle, signals of a neutral fiscal stance, and resilient global activity.

Türkiye | Disinflation progress, caution required

Consumer prices rose by 0.9% in Dec, leading its annual inflation to fall to 30.9% by end 2025. Lower than expected Dec figure and supportive early year tax adjustments create room for a similar 150bps rate cut in January; however, the persistent stickiness in inflation trend and expectations requires to remain cautious.
