Colombia | BanRep raises its benchmark rate by 100 basic points to 10.25% in January

The Central Bank (of Colombia), in a split decision, raised the monetary policy rate by 100 basis points in January, bringing it to 10.25%. The decision was based on the strong performance of the economy, the sharp increase in inflation expectations, and the deterioration in the current account.

Colombia | Banco de la Republica reduced its policy rate by 25 bp to 9.50%

December 20, 2024

The Board of Banrep reduced its monetary policy rate by 25 bps, bringing it to 9.50%. This decision was split: 5 members in favor of the 25 bp reduction, one in favor of a 50 bp reduction and one in favor of a 75 bp reduction. This is an important change in the Board's stance, after 6 meetings with rate cuts of 50bp.

In its June meeting, Banco de la República increased the monetary policy rate by 150 basis points to 7.5%. The vote was unanimous.

Colombia | BanRep increased its benchmark rate in 25bp to 2.0%

October 1, 2021

In September, BanRep increased in 25bp the monetary policy rate to 2.0%. The vote was divided, with 3 members in favor of a 50bp increase. The Staff reviewed their activity, inflation and current account deficit forecasts upward. With this move the Bank starts a rate hiking cycle.
