Summary

The increase in total tourism spending (domestic and international) remained dynamic during the third quarter of 2025, reaching 6.5% year-over-year (6.4% in the previous period). The acceleration of domestic tourism offset the moderation in international tourism.

  • Foreign tourism is beginning to stabilize after the slower growth trend that began in the middle of last year. Specifically, the growth in foreign spending moderated by 1.0 percentage point in the third quarter compared to the previous period, reaching 7.1% year-on-year. By region, the Canary Islands, in particular, was behind the slowdown observed in the quarter. On the other hand, some northern regions led the growth.
  • On the other hand, spending by Spaniards outside their usual province of residence increased by 5.4% year-on-year (+4.6% year-on-year in the previous four months). Domestic tourism spending grew in all regions, with the exception of the Balearic Islands. The Basque Country accounted almost entirely for the acceleration observed in the Spanish average.
  • 2025 ends with positive data, although it shows some slowdown. Total tourism spending increased by 7.7% in 2025. The significant moderation in the growth of international tourism was notable, while domestic tourism maintained its steady growth.
  • During the Christmas holidays, spending increased by 3.0% compared to the previous holiday period. Spending by residents was more dynamic than spending by foreigners, both within and outside of Spain.
