So far in March, consumption has maintained a similar dynamic to that observed in February, but with a better performance of the service sectors, in which restaurants and fuel surpassed the pre-pandemic level. The beginning of Easter week in the country slows down spending in restaurants and accelerates hotel spending.

Key points

  • Key points:
  • Restaurant and fuel sectors surpassed pre-pandemic level in March. Spending in restaurants slows down in the last days with the beginning of Easter week.
  • Clothing spending remains stable during the last days of March and remains at levels above pre-pandemic levels.
  • The gap between debit and credit card spending widens due to a faster recovery of the former.
  • In the last week, only Bogota shows a significant rebound in consumption compared to the rest of the major cities. This may be associated to a greater permanence of the households in the capital given the mobility restrictions imposed by the beginning of Easter week.
