Peru | Tracking consumption and investment with real-time data in September 2024

Summary

The Big Data Consumption Index moderated its growth in September, in a context of lower pension fund withdrawals. Meanwhile, the Big Data Investment Index (private and public) continued to decline in the same period, associated with the still weak private component.

Key points

  • Key points:
  • The slowdown in the Big Data Consumption Index has occurred in a context where pension fund withdrawals are drying up. However, conditions for household spending have improved: falling inflation, declining interest rates and improving employment and wages, especially in the formal sector.
  • By spending components, purchases in Food, Household Goods and Services, as well as Fashion and Beauty, moderated. However, the strong dynamism of spending on Health and Entertainment stood out
  • The Big Data Total Investment Index (private and public) continued to decline in September. By components, those related to Construction continue to weaken while those related to Machinery and Equipment improved slightly.
