Summary

Key points
- Key points:
- In August 2025, 5,578 million in remittances arrived in Mexico, down 8.3% compared to the same month the previous year. In real terms, the contraction was more severe, at -13.1%, explained by inflation and the appreciation of the Mexican peso against the US dollar.
- In 2024, there were 1.5 million remittance-receiving households in Mexico, representing 3.9% of the country's households. Within these households lived 5.5 million inhabitants, the number of people in Mexico who directly depend on this monetary inflow.
- In 360,000 households in Mexico, remittances represented more than 50% of current income. This estimate already considers other sources of income, including transfers from government programs. For these households, a disruption in the flow of remittances would have serious consequences for their economies.
- The Enigh 2024, which is a self-reported survey, captures only 7.8% of the remittance income reported by the Bank of Mexico, indicating significant under-reporting in survey data relative to administrative records.
