Colombia | Weekly update BBVA Tracker: Consumption. 29 July, 2020.

Summary

Consumption in July continues to recover but with differences between regions due to mobility restrictions that have been advanced in some cities. We analyze the impact that these new quarantines have had on consumption in Bogotá and Medellín where the greatest impacts have been seen.

Key points

  • Key points:
  • Due to the regional quarantines, the consumption in July has a setback in its recovery and falls 12% a/a.
  • Online commerce is growing by over 30% both in the number of transactions and in the value transacted through this channel.
  • Consumption in Medellín has been greatly affected by the quarantine that applies on weekends for the entire city and permanently in the center, especially in sectors of clothing and department stores.
  • The sectorized quarantine in Bogotá changed the recovery trend that brought consumption in this city.
  • In Pereira, consumption maintains a good dynamic. Expenditure on restaurants and clothing remains well above that observed in other cities.
