Colombia | Women to increase their labor force

Summary

In Colombia, 76.4% of men are in the labour force. By contrast, only 52.1 per cent of women do so. This disparity, which is called the gender gap in the labour participation rate, is marked in Colombia, reaching 24.3 percentage points.

Key points

  • Key points:
  • Unpaid Domestic and care work, as it falls disproportionately on women, is a determining factor in their low labour force participation.
  • To encourage greater participation of women in the labour market, awareness-raising and education programmes should be promoted to balance the burden of domestic and unpaid care work between men and women.
