Mexico | Multidimensional Manufacturing Index

The Multidimensional Manufacturing Index (MMI) is a barometer of the production in this sector that parsimoniously captures information from a broad set of variables that reflects activity in the value chains between Mexico and the US.

Key points

  • Key points:
  • From a principal component analysis, the index is derived as the forecast of the year on year variation of manufacturing production in the country.
  • The July data from the IMM indicates a slowdown in industrial production towards 2H22, in a context of high inflation and a more restrictive monetary policy.
  • The IMM contributes to the timely study of manufacturing activity, anticipating in one month the movements of the official indicator for this segment.
