Peru | Tracking consumption with real-time data in December 2025
Summary
The Big Data Private Consumption Index accelerated again and grew by 19.3 % YoY in December (16.7 % in November, and 7.7 % in October).
Key points
- Key points:
- The improvement was underpinned by increased household liquidity, following the extraordinary withdrawals from pension funds that began on November 21.
- Household spending has also been supported by the acceleration of consumer credit and the continued strong performance of the labor market, particularly the creation of jobs—especially formal, high-quality employment—and rising incomes. A stable price environment (low inflation) has helped preserve the purchasing power of households’ higher aggregate wage income.
- All components of the Big Data Private Consumption Indicator posted positive YoY growth and showed broad-based acceleration, with the exception of Food. Among the sectors with the most pronounced improvements were Entertainment, Education, and Tourism.
