Spain | Spending in Andalusia continues to improve

Summary

In the third week of February, the recovery in spending across the affected Andalusian provinces consolidated following improved weather conditions and the reopening of the Madrid–Andalusia railway line. Consumption accelerated and, in many cases, outpaced growth in the rest of Spain.

Key points

  • Key points:
  • Domestic card spending grew by 10.2% year-on-year, widening the positive differential versus the rest of Spain to +3.1 pp.
  • Foreign card spending returned to positive territory (+10.5% year-on-year), with a favorable differential of +6.7 pp compared with the national average.
  • Domestic tourism (interprovincial spending) increased by 10.5% year-on-year, reversing the previous week’s decline and posting a positive differential relative to the rest of Spain.
  • Madrid–Andalusia flows improved after a month in negative territory: spending by Madrid residents in the affected provinces rose by 3.9% year-on-year, closing the growth gap.
  • At the sectoral level, almost all activities regained positive differentials, particularly accommodation, restaurants, transport, fashion, vehicles, household goods and electronics, while leisure and travel agencies continued to underperform the national average.
