Colombia is deepening its spending decentralization process, not only through the incursion of other large cities other than the capital, but also, and this is what is new, towards intermediate cities and regions other than large population conglomerations.

• Big cities continue to account for the largest percentage of national spending, both because of the concentration of a greater number of inhabitants, as well as because of the higher average salaries paid in cities.
• The percentage of spending made in the capitals of the departments of Antioquia, Atlántico, Bolívar, Risaralda and in Bogotá as the main city of Cundinamarca decreased with respect to the total spending reported in those departments between 2019 and 2021.
• Of course, these small cities are not going to take the top spot away from the main cities, but they do redistribute the potential of consumption growth in the country.
• Cundinamarca, Amazonía, Antioquia, Cesar, La Guajira, Putumayo, Quindío, Arauca, among others, stand out as the regions with the highest population growth in the next 15 years.
