Colombia | The Colombian consumer evolves

Summary

Studies of changes in consumption patterns. These changes were analyzed from the perspective of trends that were on the way and were deepened by the pandemic, as well as the changes generated by the circumstances of the pandemic itself.

Key points

  • Key points:
  • Colombians have a much stronger appropriation of digital issues and now we use them much more for productive issues such as transactionality, shopping and education.
  • Digital appropriation, although it increased in both cities and rural areas, did so more in the former, widening the gaps.
  • The other major change that affected consumption was the loss of income due to the deterioration of the labor market.
  • In more structural terms, trends such as aging, higher incomes in intermediate and small cities and greater economic activity in them, and the increased role of women as heads of household continued to consolidate and will largely determine the pace and type of consumption going forward.
