Mexico | Business portfolio lags recovery of total credit, which fell 3.1% in August.

In August 2021, the nominal balance of the current loan portfolio granted by commercial banks to the non-financial private sector fell 3.1% annually (-8.3% in real terms). By credit aggregates, the annual nominal variations were: consumption, -0.3%; housing, 9.4%, and business, -8.4%.

Key points

  • Key points:
  • The monthly growth of financing to various productive activities is not yet reflected in a positive real annual variation of business credit balances.
  • Consumer credit continues exhibiting growth in monthly terms, which slightly reduces the deterioration of the portfolio in annual terms.
  • Total housing credit balances maintain their dynamism, and continue their recomposition towards the middle-residential segment.
