Peru | Tracking consumption with real-time data in May 2026

Summary

The Big Data Private Consumption Index recorded a year-on-year growth of 9.4% in April, lower than the rate observed in the previous month (March: 13.1%). This moderation occurred in a context where household purchasing power continued to be affected by the significant increase in consumer prices.

Key points

  • Key points:
  • Household spending has been supported by the acceleration of consumer credit, the continued strength of the labor market, and improvements in household income.
  • In May, the indicator was primarily driven by growth in the Fashion & Beauty, Home Goods, Transportation, Health, and Food segments, although several of these categories showed a slowdown compared with previous months. The most pronounced moderations were observed in Education and Entertainment, while Tourism and Transportation were the only components to post slight accelerations in their performance.
