Peru | Tracking consumption with real-time data in September 2025

Summary

The Big Data Private Consumption Index grew 12.0% YoY in September, accelerating for the second consecutive month (7.2% in August and 2.3% YoY in July).

Key points

  • Key points:
  • The acceleration in September was mainly due to a lower base of comparison, as the boost from the withdrawal of pension funds in 2024 — which began in mid-June and continued through October — gradually faded.
  • Consumer spending continues to be supported by the economy’s favorable cyclical position. On the labor market side, formal job creation, rising incomes, and a growing wage bill stand out. Likewise, the stable price environment is helping to preserve households’ purchasing power. Finally, consumer credit is gaining momentum.
  • By component, YoY growth in September strengthened in Health, Transportation, and Department Stores. In contrast, Food, Education, Tourism, and Entertainment showed a slower pace of expansion, although all continued to post positive growth rates.
