Key points
- Key points:
- Domestic spending was the main driver, while international spending showed greater strength. By region, the Canary Islands, Madrid, and the Basque Country, in particular, accounted for the slowdown. On the other hand, Castile-La Mancha, Murcia, La Rioja, and Asturias led the increase.
- International tourism consolidated the stabilization of the slower growth trend that began in the middle of last year and maintained a still strong growth of 6.2% year-on-year, 1.0 percentage point less than in the previous period.
- Spending by Spaniards outside their usual province of residence moderated its growth to 3.0% year-on-year, 2.7 percentage points lower than the previous period. Domestic tourism spending grew in all regions, with the exception of Madrid and the islands.
- Also noteworthy was the decline in spending by tourists to destinations directly affected by the conflict in the Middle East.
- Total tourism spending increased by 6.8% during Easter week compared to the same period last year. Domestic tourism proved more dynamic than international tourism, both within and outside of Spain. Some regions in the north and center led the way, while the islands lagged behind.
