Colombia | Consumption in pandemic times

Consumption in Colombia had its maximum fall in April, since then it has gradually recovered with some ups and downs due to new strict quarantines implemented in some cities. Household consumption patterns have changed and a return to normality will depend on the recovery of the labor market.

Key points

  • Key points:
  • The main cities, where mobility restrictions were greater, had a greater deterioration in consumption.
  • Consumption made a good recovery in June and July, thanks to the days without VAT, which was offset by new closures in some main cities.
  • The new normality that began in Colombia in September had a very positive impact on the recovery of the airline, hotel and restaurant sectors.
  • Household consumption patterns, which changed during isolation, are gradually returning to what was observed prior to the start of the pandemic.
