Global | The future of the sectors after COVID-19

Summary

The Covid-19 shock may cause changes in the economic trends and their impact on the productive sectors. Therefore, the main global trends that will determine growth until 2025 are chosen and scenarios are created for them. Then, using a SUR model, the sectoral impact is estimated.

Key points

  • Key points:
  • Crisis will accelerate pre-pandemic trends and pose new challenges for industries. Digitalization will be key to economic growth in the coming years.
  • By sector, the post-COVID-19 recovery would be driven mainly by the "Other Services", which includes digitalization, public services (especially health) and the financial sector, among others.
  • "Retail and wholesale trade and transport" would be the sector most affected by the crisis.
  • By country, sectoral patterns are similar to those of the world economy.
  • For a more detailed analysis by country or region, the methodology used can be adapted.
