Spain | Long-run regional economic and demographic aggregates: 2024 update
Summary
This Working Paper briefly describes the latest update of RegData, a database that compiles the main economic and demographic aggregates for Spain’s regions over the past six decades.
Key points
- Key points:
- Most of the series begin in 1950 or 1955 and extend through 2024. In recent years, the information provided by RegData is consistent with the latest official series published by Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE).
- These series are linked to earlier official series and other sources in order to construct homogeneous linked series that extend as far back as possible.
- The core module of RegData contains data on income, prices, employment and unemployment, and labor income. It includes data on GDP and GVA at current prices, at constant 2021 prices, and at average prices for the 1955–2024 period.
- Total and wage employment are measured in persons, jobs, hours worked, and full-time equivalent jobs. The last two variables begin in 1977 and 1981, respectively, due to the lack of the necessary information to construct them for earlier years.
- Finally, the database provides data on employee compensation and average wages, as well as a series of total labor income estimated by imputing to each self-employed worker labor earnings equal to the average compensation received by wage earners in the same region and sector.
